Understanding Hardware Flashcards
Blue-Ray Drive
Digital optical disc data storage format. It was designed to supersede the DVD format, in that it is capable of storing high-definition video resolution
Computer Cooling
CPU fans, which are used in conjunction with heat sinks to prevent overheating of the components in central processing units. Case fans, which cool the surrounding area by circulating fresh air through the case by drawing out hot air, drawing in cooler air, or both.
CPU
Is the brain of your computer. It handles all the instructions you give your computer, and the faster it does this, the better
Desktop Computers
A desktop computer is a personal computer that fits on or under a desk. They usually consist of a monitor, keyboard, mouse and either a horizontal or vertical (tower) form factor.
Disk Storage
Disk storage is a general category of storage mechanisms where data are recorded by various electronic, magnetic, optical, or mechanical changes to a surface layer of one or more rotating disks.
Mouse
A computer mouse is an input device that is most often used with a personal computer. Moving a mouse along a flat surface can move the on-screen cursor to different items on the screen.
Network card
A network interface controller (NIC, also known as a network interface card, network adapter, LAN adapter or physical network interface, and by similar terms) is a computer hardware component that connects a computer to a computer network.
Power Supply Unit
A power supply unit (PSU) converts mains AC to low-voltage regulated DC power for the internal components of a computer. Modern personal computers universally use a switched-mode power supply.
Printer
a machine for printing text or pictures onto paper, especially one linked to a computer
Processor
A part of a computer, such as the central processing unit, that performs calculations or other manipulations of data. A program that translates another program into a form acceptable by the computer being used.
DVD drive
An optical disc drive that reads and writes all common CD and DVD formats. All modern optical drives that come with personal computers are CD/DVD drives
Flash Drives
a small electronic device containing flash memory that is used for storing data or transferring it to or from a computer, digital camera.
Graphics Card
Definition. A video card connects to the motherboard of a computer system and generates output images to display. Video cards are also referred to as graphics cards. Video cards include a processing unit, memory, a cooling mechanism and connections to a display device.
Hybrid Devices
A circuit, device, or component that comprises multiple elements or performs multiple functions not normally associated with one another.A hybrid communications system might support both digital and analog signals or perhaps both circuit switching and packet switching.
Keyboard
panel of keys that operate a computer or typewriter.
