Batting out of order is an appeal play. When should an appeal be made?
after batter has completed his turn and before the next pitch. - if its made during the bat - the correct batter is installed and the count resumes.
Who is out when appealing a batter out of order?

yes
If a fan tells you there has been a hit out of order does the play stand?
yes - only the defensive team can make the appeal play
If Baker takes Irwin’s place at bat and scores in three runs - and defence then makes an appeal - who is out? How many runs score?
Irwin is the proper batter = out. No runs score (the play is nullified)
While improper batter is up - a wild pitch allows the runners to advance. Appeal is made. Do the runners have to return to their original bases?

What are the 4 categories of interference?
Offensive - Defensive - Umpire - Spectator.
What happens in All cases of Offensive interference? What are the 3 categories of offensive interference?
NO RUNNERS MAY ADVANCE ON THE PLAY. 3 types: Interference by batter - interference by runner - interference by other offensive team members
When is batter out for interference (7 points)?
batter’s bat hits the ball a 2nd time in FAIR territory. Batter intentionally touches foul ball. Batter is touched by a FAIR batted ball while out of the batters box. Batter deliberately interferes with batted ball or fielder. Batter hinders catcher after 3rd strike. Batter runs out of 3 foot lane and interferes with THROW to 1st. Batter deliberately hinders a catcher’s fielding etc.
Who else is out if a batter deliberately interferes with a batted ball or fielder? When is this interference disregarded
the runner nearest home. Batter isn’t out if the runner nearest home gets out anyways
Who is called out when a batter interferes with the catcher?
Runner at 3rd if trying to score. If 2 outs- batter called out instead and no run scores.
What happens when batter’s interference is enforced?
batter is called out. Runners return to their previous bases. Ball is dead.
If bat flies out of batter’s hands after hit and hits the ball again - is interference called?
Yes - batter out - runners return - ball is dead

runner is out - batter would be out with 2 outs
When is a runner out for interference?

What is defensive interference?
catcher or fielder interferes with the batter. Batter gets 1st base
How is defensive interference called?
if there’s a play the play continues. If batter does not reach 1st base & all other runners do not advance 1 base - then interference is ruled. batter awarded 1st - runners move if forced.
What is the catch with defensive interference?
offensive team can choose to decline the interference and accept the play

batter and runners awarded 3 bases - not interference so play continues - they are entitled to the 3 bases and go further at their own risk.
What is umpire interference? What is the exception?
umpire interferes with the catcher’s throw to out a stealing runner the runner must return. Ball touches umpire before passing an infielder - Batter gets 1st. Exception: catcher is able to out the runner anyways - the play stands
When is umpire interference NOT called?
thrown ball hits ump. Ball deflects off play or passes infielder and then hits ump = no interference.
When does spectator interference occur? What’s the call?
spectator touches ball on the playing FIELD - award whatever bases you think would have been reached
What happens if batter-runner is tripped going to 1st base?
Obstrucion - batter gets 1st base
What time to get to the field before a game?
30 minutes before

NO - only if its a check swing
How do you indicate a fair ball?
point towards fair territory - no voice
How do call a balk?
call BALK - but don’t call TIME until after the play is finished.
What is important about calling infield fly?
wait until it starts to come down to call it
How should cleaning the plate be done?
brush with back to the PITCHER
When exiting the plate zone or coming back - how is that done?
when exiting the plate zone - exit to the left - when coming back don’t step behind the catcher until your mask is back on
