- nothing to eat or drink for 12 hr prior
- have light meals/ no gas producing foods
- note in the dietary section of the Kardex “NPO @… “
- notify patients nurse

GALLBLADDER ULTRASOUND require?

A
- fat free diet for 1 day prior to exam
- nothing to eat/drink after midnight the day before exam
- enter the diet change to order a fat free diet for the patient the day before procedure
- transcribe to dietary section of Kardex “NPO @ …” the day before procedure

- drink 2 large glasses of water prior to examination and do not void
- notify patients nurse

PELVIC/OBSTETRICAL ULTRASOUND require?

A
-two hours prior to test, patient drinks 32-40 ounces of fluid
- notify the patients nurse of fluid prep
- if patient is NPO, the RN will adjust the IV flow rate
