Ultrasound 2 Flashcards

1
Q

What are the different types of probes? (mention the frequency and what they best image)

A

Linear: 5-15 MHz
Soft tissue, Musculoskeletal, most procedures.

Curvilinear: 2-5 MHz
General Abdominal (Gallbladder, Liver, etc), Bladder, Bowel, OB/Gyn

Phased Array: 1-5 MHz, Cardiac, Abdominal, eFAST, Renal, Bladder, Bowel, IVC

Q

What’s one advantage of the phased array transducer?

A

An advantage of a phased array transducer is that the beam can be “steered” or directed to different areas giving it a wider field of view than a linear probe. This allows for a smaller transducer size but there is a tradeoff in resolution.

Q

B-Scans are used in obstetrics to:

A

Diagnose pregnancy, access viability of foetus, gestational age (femur length, crown-rump length, biparietal diameter, abdominal circumference) in order to determine the foetal weight, placental location, multiple pregnancies, foetal malformation
