16
Q

Renshaw cell

A

Inhibitory interneuron in gray matter of spinal cord

  1. Receive excitatory collateral from alpha neuron as they emerge from motor root and are kept informed of how vigorously neuron is firing
  2. send inhibitory axon to synapse with cell body lf alpha neuron

Negative feedback system
Target of clostridium tetanii

17
Q

Target of clostridium tetanii

A

Renshaw cells

18
Q

Clostrodium tetanii mechanism of action

A

Inhibits release of glycine, an inhibitory neurotransmitter, from Renshaw cells. Therefore alpha motor neurons become hyperactive and muscles spontaneously contract

19
Q

Strychnine poison mechanism of action

A

Acts on Renshaw cells preventing their ability to control alpha neurons firing by binding to glycine on alpha motor neuron. Muscles continually contract and its fatal if diaphram is involved

20
Q

Roles of AcH

A

Thermal receptors
Chemoreceptors
Taste
Pain receptors maybe

21
Q

Ach excitatory or inhibitory?

A

Excitatory
