Integration

Marginalization

eurocentrism
The belief that European values and culture are superior to others.
paternalism
A colonial attitude in which the ruling power treats indigenous
people as if they are children, controlling them under the justification of guidance and
protection.
Social Darwinism
The application of the theory of natural selection to human societies, used to justify imperialist and racist ideologies, suggesting that some races or cultures are superior to others.
Going native
The process in which a colonial settler adopts the customs and lifestyle of the indigenous people, often including interracial relationships, leading to rejection by their own community.
Noble savage
The romanticized depiction of indigenous people as pure, simple, and uncorrupted by civilization, often ignoring their real complexities
Clash of cultures
form of cultural conflict that arises when differing traditions, values, or customs collide.
Mimicry
A practice in which colonized people imitate the language, dress, and behavior of the colonizer, often as a survival strategy.
Othering
The act of defining a group as fundamentally different and inferior to reinforce social hierarchies
Imperialism
The extension of a country’s power through territorial acquisition or by exerting economic and political control over others.
Expatriate
A person who lives outside their native country, often by choice.
Remorse
A deep feeling of regret and guilt over past actions.
