What were the enclosure acts

A

A series of Acts of parliament between 1750 and 1860 which stopped villagers using open fields and commons which they had been allowed to use for centuries for farming. This meant that villagers could no longer make a living and had to move to find a better life. Many went to live in industrial towns.
