  • Royal Family serves s an example of national unity
  • having sovereign means having a person people can identify with : state has a “face”
  • serves as rolemodel/idol

A
  • highly expensive (cover costs: travel expenses, housing, staff, security)
  • RF is biggest landowner & still receive public money
  • hereditary monarchy violates principle that the one most qualified for the job also relieves it
  • romanticising monarchy might be linked to nationalist ideas//feelings of superiority
  • too much pressure on members of RF // huge burden
  • idea of monarchy is outdated & undemocratic
  • symbol of colonalism
