Declared and non-declared SAR assets.

What does the National Maritime Operations Centre (NMOC) co-ordinate?
Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) assets including SAR Helicopters
Who can the NMOC also work with?
Other Rescue Coordination Centres (RCC) e.g Norway, ROI, by controling SAR assests requested by them

What is the Cospas-Sarsat system do?
Located in the NMOC, it uses satellite technology to detect active radio distress beacons anywhere and passes that information to the relevant RCC

15 minutes between 0800 to 2200.
45 minutes from 2200 to 0800
Who will appoint military SAR assets when dealing with a military aircraft crash?
the DCDSDO
Who will co-ordinate the search operation at a military crash site?
The DCDSDO will appoint a On-Scene Commander (OSC) who will coordinate until the aircrew, passangers and aircraft is located.
Who is responsible for co-ordinating non-aircraft incidents in Scotland?
Mountain Rescue Scotland co-ordinates and works closely with the police who have a statutory duty.
Who is responsible for co-ordinating non-aircraft incidents in England and Wales?
Mountain Rescue of England and Wales in conjunction with the police.
How many MR teams are there in England and Wales?
Total of 47 split between 8 different associations covering various regions.
How many MR teams are there in scotland?
27 covering the mainland and islands.
