Labour - 29 seats
Conservatives - 16
What does recent polling suggest about SNPs influence at holyrood
Diminishing , Decreased point gap with labour from 12 to 7 from 2023- 2024
2 examples of smaller parties being able to influence policy
- SNP winning a majority in the scottish parliament and seeing through a refferendum for scottish independence in 2014
2.George Galloways workers party somewhat influencing labour to become more ProPalestine in the future due to his recent by election win in Rochdale
How is power still centralised in the UK Government
Uk gov has reserved powers over devolved nations - e.g. Uk gov vetoed the Scottish gender bill in 2022 even though gender recognition is a devolved matter
2 examples showing how government is no longer dominated by the two major parties
- 2010 - 2015 conservative/lib dem coalition where the conservatives couldn’t gain a majority. Lib Dem’s opposed many policies including the privatisation of key motorways
- In 2017 the conservatives again fell short of a majority and formed a confidence and supply agreement with the democratic unionist party that won 10 seats
In what 2 ways did the Lib Dem’s fail during the coalition
- They lost their flagship AV referendum with a 67.9 percent vote for no, and only a 42 percent turnout . Cons made it seem like a non issue
- Failed to reform the house of lords to become fully elected as it was abandoned in the second reading after lack of Conservative support
