How has the UK economy changed
Deindustrialisation has occurred across the UK meaning that primary and secondary products are now manufactured at a low cost overseas in locations such as China and India and other EDCs where they have access to lots of raw materials and textiles. Due to this deindustrialisation in the 1970s and 80s there was a decline in jobs as well as in industries such as mining, shipbuilding, steel works and footloose industries. This led to higher levels of unemployment in the UK in places such as Manchester where many factories were closed.
