A

The SE and London is the wealth core region :
with higher wages
higher household wealth
faster economic growth, more government investment to improve infrastructure
It therefore attracts new investments from businesses and best educated/skilled migrants which further develops the SE

Costs and benefits of greenfield development

A

Benefits : Are cheap to build on, sites that haven’t been built on before including green belt land around cities
Costs : Loss of agricultural land, are not favoured by environmentalists, as it encourages urban sprawl, Encourage commuting and traffic congestion as people travel into urban areas from the countryside.

Costs and benefits of brownfield development

A

Benefits : The site has already been developed so reduces urban sprawl, use unsightly areas for building developments, so improves the urban environment.
Costs : Are more expensive to build on as often the land needs to be cleared first (especially if land is contaminated from previous industrial use), good habitat for plants and animals so once built on you loose environmental benefit
