Synoptic Gospels
Matthew, Mark, and Luke. “Synoptic” means “view together,” and is applied to these writings because they, unlike John, can be readily compared.
Evangelist
The author of a gospel.
Herodian
Followers and members of the court of Herod the Great and his sons.
Eucharist
A ritual or service of thanksgiving, centering on the sharing of bread and wine, based on the final meal Jesus shared with his followers before his trial and crucifixion; also called Communion, the Lord’s Supper, and the Mass.
Lord’s Supper
A term for the commemoration or re-enactment of Jesus’ last meal with his followers.
Last Supper
The name for the meal that Jesus shared with his closest followers on the night before his crucifixion.
Manumission
Release from servitude.
