U2C4: Planning and Writing Geometric Proofs Flashcards
1
Q
what are the three steps to gather information for a proof?
A
- look at the hypothesis, or given information. write down every you know based on what you are given. mark this information on the diagram.
- look at the conclusion, or what you are trying to prove. write down definitions of what you are trying to prove.
- look at the diagram. write down anything from the figure that can help you.

Q
what are the steps to write a proof by contradiction?
A
- assume the opposite of the “prove” statement.
- use deductive reasoning to show that your assumption and the given information cannot both be true.
- finish by saying that you reached a contradiction and that the original conclusion must be true.
