Riff
A repetitive musical pattern
Hook
A memorable musical phrase, the “riff” intended to catch your attention.
Groove
A channel flow of rhythms. Can be described as funky, swinging, punchy, dirty, etc.
Timbre
Pronounced “Tamber”. It is the tone quality or color like buzzy, mellow, dark, fuzzy, etc.
Beat/Pulse
A consistent beating & most basic element of music.
Tempo
The speed of the beat/pulse
Meter
Describes the grouping of beats.
Melody
A series of notes that form a distinct unit, usually being a single line, memorable, important, and it’s the loudest part of the music.
Harmony
The organization of many simultaneous pitches
Form
The organization of large sections within the song
