What were the primary responses?
The Philippines meteorological agency warned about the Typhoon two days before it made landfall. This enabled 800,000 people to be evacuated, however some people died in evacuation centres when they flooded
Fishermen were warned not to go to sea
The Philippines declared a state of emergency which led to charities offering aid, shelter and clean water
What were the secondary responses?
The UN appealed for over $300 million to help with relief and rebuilding
Charities built new storm resistant houses
The Philippines tourist board encouraged people to visit the unaffected parts of the country as this would support the rebuilding process
