  • Occurred between 1500 & 1200BC.
  • Involved a Semitic language (like Ugaritic, Akkadian, Canaanite, Phoenician, or Aramaic.)
  • Resulted in the Phoenician alphabet by c. 1200BC.
  • Produced a script written from right to left.
  • Only consonants.
