Liturgical Worship
A
- A church service that follows a set structure of ritual (formal prayer)
- Symbolic actions, music, hymns, chanting,Eucharist: the Litrugy of the Word (bible readings, usually Gospel), liturgy of the Eucharist - altar prepared with bread / wine, the Eucharist prayer + lord’s prayer
- E.g. Eucharist - Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican

Non-liturgial Worship
A
- A service that does not follow a set structure or ritual
- Non-conformist churches may choose an order to sit there
- Emphasis on the word of God in the Bible
- Usually focused on Bible readings and a sermon based on these readings
- Basic structure may remain same, but order of hymns or type of prayer varies with the Priest
- E.g. non conformist churches - Methodist, Baptist, United Reform

Informal Worship
A
- A type of non-liturgical worship, sometimes ‘spontaneous’ or ‘charistmatic’ in nature
- Modern, emphasize the ability to worship anywhere where Christians gather
- “Where two or more are gathered in my name, I am there with them”
- E..g Quaker worship - mainly silent, people speak when they feel God’s spirit moving them to offer thoughts, prayers or readings
- Community / house churches → meet to eat together and share their faith to recreate what they believe to be a worship of the early church
- Pentecostal Church: “charismatic” (led by the spirit) → dancing, clapping, calling out, speaking in tongues?, feel it is easier to experience God’s Holy Spirit, spontaneous action

Private Worship
A
- Allows individuals to spend time with God, either alone or with close friends / family. IN addition to Church.
- Involves prayer, meditations, studying, meditating on a Bible passage, or using aids (eg. an icon or rosary)
- “Go to your room, close the door and prayer to your father who is in heaven”
- “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it”
