What are the characteristics of a Parable
Parables are realistic and have a moral. In addition, Parables teach a lesson.
What are the characterisitics of a fable
Fables are not realistic and have a moral. Often they use animals who behave as humans.
Fairy Tales
Formulaic i.e. once upon a time, good wins over evil, based on some sort of magic.
Folk Tales
not idealized such as fairy tales, told in common language and told for entertainment, not to teach a point.
Noodlehead tales
specific type of folk tale. Listeners can outsmart the pro/antagonist and these stories are often seen as humerous
Myths
Myths are stories used to explain the unexplainable. Often associated with nature or natural events
Legends
Larger than life tales about a real person, place or thing. Real people are often given superhuman traits.
How are myths and legends different
Myths attempt to explain natural processes, or things that can not easily be understood. Legends, or “tall tales” edify the actions of a real person place or thing
How are parables and fables similar? How are they different
Both attempt to give a moral commentary. Parables are plausable fables are fake
What differenticates a noodlehead tale from a folktale?
Noodle head tales attempt to give the audience a sense of power/ by allowing them to outwit the characters in the story.
