Types Of Tissues Flashcards
Connective tissues
Areolar connective tissue
Adipose tissue
Fibrous connective tissue
Structure, Support, Defense, Transports materials and binds things together
Consists of fibers such as
Collagen fibers which are tough and Elastic fibers
The cells are separated by a ground substance which is made up of water, fluid and a mix of fluids called matrix
Loose connective tissue
Composed of collagen and elastic fibers found in and around blood vessels and organs
Fibrous connective tissues
Large amount of collagen and few cells
Found in tendons and ligaments
Cartilage connective tissues
Found at the end of bones and in our bones and ears
Adipose connective tissue
Body fat
It is used for insulation and to help store energy
Blood connective tissue (special type)
Cells are separated by fluid
Bones connective tissues
Bone to bone
Muscle to bone
Epithelial Tissues
Like cavities and cover surface of vessels and organs
Epithelial tissue functions
-Protection from sunlight and pathogens
-Secretions of sweat or hormones and even mucus
-Involved in absorption in exchange (for example oxygen in co2 are exchanged through epithelial tissues
-sensation how we touch and feel our world
How are epithelia tissues classified ?
By shape and number
Types of epithelial tissues ( Squamous ) and where they are found
Are like pancakes their width is greater than their height
Found in lungs and blood vessels
Cuboidal epithelial tissue
Have a width and height that is the same as a cube
Found in important glands
Columnar epithelial tissues
Like a column their height is greater than their width
Found is digestive tract and possibly the trachea
Divided into simple (one layer) and stratified (multi layered)
Epithelial tissues line our what
Outside of our body and inside of our vessels and help keep us alive
Nerve tissues
Found in our brain and spinal cord and peripheral systems
Many nerve tissues are made up of nerve cells which are called neurons (transmit electrical signals throughout the body)
Neurons allow our brain to communicate with your body
