Types Of Tissues Flashcards

1
Q

Connective tissues

A

Areolar connective tissue
Adipose tissue
Fibrous connective tissue
Structure, Support, Defense, Transports materials and binds things together
Consists of fibers such as
Collagen fibers which are tough and Elastic fibers
The cells are separated by a ground substance which is made up of water, fluid and a mix of fluids called matrix

Q

Adipose connective tissue

A

Body fat
It is used for insulation and to help store energy

Q

Epithelial tissue functions

A

-Protection from sunlight and pathogens
-Secretions of sweat or hormones and even mucus
-Involved in absorption in exchange (for example oxygen in co2 are exchanged through epithelial tissues
-sensation how we touch and feel our world

Have a width and height that is the same as a cube
Found in important glands

Q

Columnar epithelial tissues

A

Like a column their height is greater than their width
Found is digestive tract and possibly the trachea
Divided into simple (one layer) and stratified (multi layered)

Q

Epithelial tissues line our what

A

Outside of our body and inside of our vessels and help keep us alive

Q

Nerve tissues

A

Found in our brain and spinal cord and peripheral systems
Many nerve tissues are made up of nerve cells which are called neurons (transmit electrical signals throughout the body)
Neurons allow our brain to communicate with your body

16
Q

Parts of a Neuron (cell body)

A

contains the nucleus and mitochondria and ribosomes

17
Q

Neurons (dendrites)

A

Look like tree branches
Receive electrical signals from other neurons

18
Q

Neurons (Axon)

A

Nerve signal passes down the exon
Exon has insulation called a myelin sheath
At the end of an axon you have an axon terminal that communicates with dendrites of other cells this allows electrical signals to pass and flow throughout the body

19
Q

Muscle tissue

A

One type of tissue found in the human body
Responsible for movement inside and outside of the body
Help with body posture and produce heat
Have the ability to contract and get shorter and then relax and return to original size

20
Q

Types of muscle tissues ?

A

Smooth
Cardiac
Skeletal

21
Q

Which muscles are striated

A

Cardiac and skeletal muscles (regularly repeated stripes which are formed by proteins called maira filaments which caused these stripes in the muscles

22
Q

Where are smooth muscles found ?

A

Digestive track and inside veins and arteries

23
Q

Which muscles are involuntary?

A

Smooth muscles (you don’t have to think about them in order for them to work) help with the movement of food, waste and blood throughout our body

24
Q

Skeletal muscles

A

Voluntary muscles that work with bones in order to help us move around

25
Q

How are skeletal muscles attached to bones ?

A

By tough connective tissues called tendons
We have over 600 different skeletal muscles

26
Q

Cardiac muscles

A

Our striated muscles found in the heart
Mixture between smooth and skeletal muscles
Help the heart pump blood all day

27
Q

3 types of muscle tissues are?

A

Smooth skeleton and cardiac
