The examiner or test administrator (the person giving the test) gives the test to only one person at a time.
Individual tests
Administered to more than one person at a time by a single examiner, such as when an instructor gives everyone in the class a test at the same time.
Group test
Measure skills in terms of speed, accuracy, or both.
Ability tests
TYPES OF ABILITY TESTS
Types of Ability Tests
- Achievement
- Aptitude
- Intelligence
TYPES OF ABILITY TESTS
Measures previous learning.
Achievement Test
TYPES OF ABILITY TESTS
Measures potential for acquiring a specific skill.
Aptitude Test
TYPES OF ABILITY TESTS
Measures potential to solve problems, adapt to changing circumstances, and profit from experiences.
Intelligence Test
Measure typical behavior—traits, temperaments, and dispositions.
Personality tests
TYPES OF PERSONALITY TESTS
Types of Personality tests.
- Structured (Objective)
- Projective
TYPES OF PERSONALITY TESTS
Provides a self report statement to which the person responds or requires a specific response to a structured set of instructions. “True” or “False,” “Yes” or “No.”
Structured (objective) Test
TYPES OF PERSONALITY TESTS
Provides an ambiguous test stimulus; response requirements are unclear.
Projective Test
Derives meaning from test scores by comparing it with other group of test takers.
Norm-Referenced Test
The meaning of test scores is derived through reference to a set of standard.
Criterion-Referenced Test
Compares a test taker against peers
Normative Test
Compares a test taker against self.
Ipsative Test
A test which measures how many questions a test taker can answer correctly in an allotted time.
Speed Test
Has enough time to complete all the items of an easy to more complex questions.
Power Test
Refers to ways in measuring intelligence through language and non language.
Verbal and Non-verbal Test
Items become progressively difficult.
e.g. easy to hard items.
Spiral Test
Several sections of the test are spiral in nature.
e.g. easy-hard-easy-hard-easy-hard
Cyclical Test
A pre-assessment on a student’s prior knowledge before beginning of instruction.
Diagnostic Test.
An assessment during the instructional process.
Formative Test
A test given after a specific point of instruction to measure understanding of the course.
Summative Test

Power test
An intelligence test involves answering vocabulary and comprehension questions. What type of test is this?
Verbal test
A psychologist assesses intelligence by using puzzles and picture-based questions rather than written or spoken language. What type of test is this?
Non-verbal test
A test starts with easy questions and gradually becomes more difficult. What type of test is this?

A test contains multiple sections, each starting with easy questions, followed by harder ones, and then repeating the cycle. What type of test is this?
Cyclical test
Before a new school year begins, a teacher gives a test to determine what students already know about science. What type of test is this?
Diagnostic test
A teacher gives weekly quizzes to monitor student progress throughout the semester. What type of test is this?
