4 types of speech accd to purpose
informative, persuasive, demonstrative, entertaining
this speech serves to provide interesting and useful information to the audience. it is mainly performed for the purpose of educating the audience on new or relevant pieces of information on a particular topic
Informative
This has many similarities with an informative speech. Teaches you something. The main difference lies in including a demonstration on how to do the thing you’re teaching
Demonstrative
Works to convince people to change in some way; they think, the way they do something, or to start doing something that they are not currently doing. It is given solely for the purpose of convincing the audience to agree with the speaker’s opinion on a particular topic
Persuasive
It aims to entertain. Many people earn a living by speaking to entertain. The speaker provides pleasure and enjoyment that make the audience laugh or identify with anecdotal information. Aims to share laughter and enjoyment to the audience through witty and humorous lines
Entertaining

read/manuscript, memorized, extemporaneous, impromptu
Is read by the speaker from a manuscript. The speaker is advised to practice delivery beforehand
Read/Manuscript
Is also written in advance. Orations and declamation pieces are examples of this
Memorized
It is the ______ of a written message that the speaker has committed to memorize
rote recitation
Delivered by speakers who have expert knowledge on the topic and are therefore able to deliver an entire speech using an outline of ideas on cue cards. It is not written down word for word and there is no manuscript to read from
Extemporaneous
It is the presentation of a carefully planned and rehearsed speech, spoken in a conversational manner using brief notes
Extemporaneous
This type of speech is delivered with little to no preparations at events. In this speech, you need to be brief and specific.
Impromptu
It is the presentation of a short message without advance preparation and is for people knowledgeable about the subject
