Types of solutions Flashcards
Concentration of substances in solutions is higher than that of the cells
Hypertonic
Concentration of substances in the solution is lower to that of the cells
Hypotonic
Concentration of substances is equal
Isotonic
The movement of substances across the partially permeable membranes against the concentration gradient (From a low gradient to a high).
This process requires energy as it is going against the way of solutions want to move.
Active Transport
The active regulation of an organisms fluids to keep them from becoming too diluted or too concentrated.
Many organisms use this active process to counterbalance osmosis so that they can be in a watery environment where the concentration of solutes outside their body differs from that inside.
Osmoregulation
