TYPES OF SHOCK Flashcards
Obstructive
Blood flow is blocked in the heart or other large vessels
CARDIOGENIC
Heart cannot circulate enough blood to maintain adequate peripheral oxygen delivery
Hypovolemic
Circulating blood volume is unable to deliver adequate nutrients to the body.
- Exogenous: External bleed
- Endogenous: Internal Bleed
Disruptive
Widespread dilation of small arterioles and/or small venules
Septic
Presence of sepsis syndrome (SIRS) with a systolic blood pressure of >90
Neurogenic
Spinal cord injury. Loss of normal sympathetic nervous system tone and vasodilation.
Muscles in the walls of the blood vessels are cut off from the nerve impulses that cause them to contract
Anaphylaxis
Severe reaction to a substance that the patient would be sensitive to. No blood loss or vascular damage
