Simple sentence

A

Contains a subject and a verb.
Stand in its own (independent clause).
Eg: The baby cried for food

Compound sentence

A

Has two independent clauses joined by a conjunction. Basically two simple sentences.
Eg The shoplifter had stolen clothes, so he ran from the police.
(Independent). (Conjunction). (Dependent)

Complex sentence

A

Independent clause joined by one or more dependent clauses.
Always has a subordinating conjunction or relative pronoun.
Eg: After eating lunch at the restaurant, Tim went to exercise at the gym.
