Types of Rainfall Flashcards
1
Q
What is Orographic Rainfall
A
Precipitation produced when moist air rises and cools as it goes over a mountain range
2
Q
What is Frontal Rainfall
A
When a warm air mass rises and it bumps into a cool air mass and it rises. As it continues to rise, it cools and condenses into a cloud which then precipitates
3
Q
What is convectional rainfall
A
Sun heats a shallow layer of air close to the ground. This air is now warmer and starts to rise. It meets the cold atmosphere and cools down, condensing into a cloud and producing heavy rainfall.
