Examples of primary production
Farming, fishing, quarrying and mining
What is secondary production
Raw and natural resources are manufactured to produced finished goods.
Examples of secondary production
Sand, cement timber and bricks to build a house
Combing electronic parts to build a phone
Milk and coco powder to make a chocolate bar
What is tertiary production
The providing of services and goods
Examples of tertiary production
Banking, retailing, transport, consultancy services
What is a chain of production
The various production stages a product passes through before being sold to a customer
What does the chain of production show
Interdependence
What does interdependence show in the chain of production
The interdependence shows that where economies, businesses,
consumers and workers are linked together and they are
reliant upon each other for their welfare. Eg: Cadbury will be reliant on the primary production stage of the cocoa beans from Ghana
What is the modern trend in change of production
Deindustrialisation, which is when employment if moving away from primary and secondary types/ sectors to the tertiary sector/type
3 reasons for the change in production
Mechanisation/modernisation of equipment in primary and secondary sectors has resulted in fewer job opportunities eg: cow milking machines used instead of human labour
Many secondary sector industries have closed down due to foreign goods being imported on to the market at cheaper prices, so businesses may have to relocate to lower costs
The standard of education is high in NI meaning many young people choose to go into professional careers in the tertiary sector rather than the primary and secondary sectors
