Strengths of overt obs?
People know they’re watched and can therefore give consent
Strengths of covert obs?
No Hawthorne effect
Strengths of structured obs?
Easy to replicate
Strengths of unstructured obs?
Can record all behaviour including unexpected
Strengths of controlled obs?
Replication is easier
Strengths of naturalistic obs?
Can be generalised to real life
Strengths of participant obs?
Valuable insights by participating
Strength of non-participant obs?
You keep your objectivity
