A network consisting of only a small number of devices owned by an individual.
PAN (Personal Area Network)
A network that covers a small area (for example, a company’s network).
LAN - local area network
A network that includes many devices and covers a large area. Usually collectively owned.
WAN - wide Area Network
A network that connects a number of LANs to form a larger network so that the computer resources can be shared.
MAN - Metropolitan Area Network
A computer network that spans a limited geographic area. They interconnect multiple local area networks (LAN) within an educational or corporate campus.
CAN - A Campus area network
A group of computers or other devices that form a network based on radio transmissions rather than wired connections.
WLAN - Wireless local area network
A dedicated, independent high-speed network that interconnects and delivers shared pools of storage devices to multiple servers.
SAN Storage Area Network
A software-defined wide area network is a virtual WAN architecture that allows enterprises to leverage any combination of transport services — including MPLS, LTE and broadband internet services — to securely connect users to applications.
