What are the different types of movement?
Flexion extension adduction abduction rotation circumduction dorsiflexion planter flexion
What is flexion?
A bending movement that decreases the size between angles (like when you are performing a bicep curl)
What is extension?
A straightening movement that increases the size between angles (like your elbow when throwing a shot put)
What is adduction?
Movement that pulls towards from the midline of the body (like raising your arms when doing star jumps)
What is abduction?
A movent that pulls away from the midline of the body (like throwing your hands out whilst doing star jumps)
What is rotation?
Moving in a circular motion around one axis away from the midline of the body (like doing a drive shot in golf at the hip)
What is circumduction?
Moving in a circular motion (like bowling in cricket)
What is dorsiflexion?
Toes down
What is planter flexion?
Pointing toes up
