Double Braid
Two hollow braided ropes, one inside the other. Manufactured using synthetic lines, 50% of its strength is in its core.
Plain laid
Made of three strands, right or left laid. Most common is right hand laid.
Polypropylene
A synthetic fiber about half the strength of nylon. It is 25% lighter than nylon making it easier to handle and it floats in water.
Nylon
Synthetic fiber of great strength and elasticity and is resistant to whether.
Natural fiber
Shrinks when wet, becomes brittle and tends to rot.
What is the bitter end of a line?
The running or free end of a line. It is the end of the line that is worked with.
What is the standing part of a line?
The long unused or belayed end.
