Types of joints Flashcards
what are fixed joints
fixed joints are interlocked bones. they dont move and are held togther by bands of fibirus tissue that is very strong
slightly movable joint
allows slight movment
- seperated by fibrocartlidge to help absord impacts
- covered in smooth shiney covering (articular) this helps stops friction
synovial joint
- freely movable joint
- 2 or more bones
-has cartlidge to allow bones to slide over on another
-synovial cavity relases fluid to lubriacte the joint
-contains ligamnets fibiriouse bands
name all the elemnts of synovial joints
-bursa
- articular cartlidge
- synovial membrain
-synovial fluid
-ligamnts
-joint capsule
what is bursa
-fluid filled sack
- cushioned between tendon and bone
- prevents friction
joint capsule
- fibirus outer sleeve allows bones to keep in place
- helps protects bones
articular cartlidge
- smooth slippery ends of bone that prevent friction
synovial membrane
- the capsule lining that relases fluid
ligaments
- holds the bones togther and keep them in palce
what are the types of synovial joints
- hinge
- ball and socket
- condyloid
- gliding joint
- pivot joint
- saddle joint
what is a hinge joint
- only allows one direction of movment
- e.g would be bicep curl
ball and socket
- allows movment in all directions
- round end of bone into cuped shaped socket
- e.g would be shoulder
condyloid
- movment fowards, backwards and side to side
- e.g wrist
gliding joint
- allows movemnt over flat suurface in all direction
- restrcited by ligmamnets
- e.g carples and tarsles
pivot joint
- circular bone fits on peg shaped other bone
-e.g moving neck side to side using pivot joint
