Name 6 types of fractures and describe them

A

Transverse fracture- fracture at a right angle (straight)
Oblique fracture- fracture is slanted
Spiral fracture- Very dangerous, sharp fracture can pierce skin
Comminuted fracture- when the bone is cracked or broken into more than two pieces
Avulsed fracture- where ligament breaks off part of bone
Greenstick fracture- Small fracture doesn’t go right through (usually common in children)

  • Weight bearing activities
  • Occurs when muscles become tired and the bones overload
