Types Of Immunity Flashcards
Autoimmune disease
When an organisms immune system isn’t able to recognise antigens present on its own cells. The organism sees these antigens as foreign and launches an immune response against its own tissues.
Active immunity
The type of immunity you get when your immune system makes antibodies after being stimulated by an antigen.
Natural active immunity
When you become immune after catching a disease e.g. measles or chicken pox.
Artificial active
When you become immune by being given a vaccination.
Passive immunity
The type of immunity you get by being given antibodies made by a different organism. Your own immune system is not producing any antibodies.
Natural passive
A baby can have immunity to some diseases due to antibodies passed from the mother.
Natural artificial
You become immune after being given an injection of antibodies from someone else.
