Afro
- originated in the 1970s.
- worn by male & females.
- using a hair pick to maximize natural kinkiness a black hair.
- known as Black power.
- adopted by all races and ages.
Bald
• complete absence of hair which may be due to deliberate shaving of head or do to genetic hair loss.
Bangs
- hair that is scissored to pacifically hang down over the forehead.
- called fringes in England & some other countries.
- from thick and full to wispy & texturized.
Bantu knots
- combination of twisted plaits & knots.
* created by dividing hair into individual plaits & twisting each plait into knots along the top of the head.
Bowl cut
- A cut that origins of placing a bowl on top of the head & then cutting off everything that protrudes from under the bowl.
- became popular during the Great Depression.
- easy at home haircut.
Cornrows
- A type of breed that’s been existence for hundreds of years.
- created when a row of hair is sectioned off and braided straight or at an angle.
- A few to many hours to create on the entire head.
Dreadlocks
- matted and knotted hair strands.
* can evolve naturally by letting hair knot and dread or created through a series of knotting and dreading techniques.
Fade/temple fade
- short tapered cut.
- back and sides is tapered from zero length, lower down to around half an inch.
- The hair is longer on top and may be layered.
- about 2 to 3 inches.
Twists
- 1” by 1” sectioning.
- twisting from root to tip.
- all over head.
Flattop
• Cut short and flat on top.
Mohawk
•Hair on both sides of the head is cut off leaving a line of hair in the middle that sticks up straight.
Number two
• very short hairstyle all a piece of electrical equipment called hair clippers.
Number one
•Slightly shorter than number two.
Fauxhawk
- a fade that’s slightly longer on the top than other fades.
- men don’t shave the entire side of their heads and they don’t keep the top as long as a regular mohawk.
- often known as a mini mohawk.
High and tight
- military haircut.
- short on the bottom and sides basically shaved completely off.
- A little bit longer on the very top.
- Basic military hairstyle and required for men who are in the Armed Forces.
The Princeton
- starts off pretty short on the sides but stays a bit longer on the top.
- typically anywhere from 1 to 2 inches longer than the hair on the sides.
Ceaser fade
- similar to the average fade.
- not sure on the sides and longer on the top.
- usually not styled, but when styled men typically brush their hair forward so they almost have like bangs.
Nappy
- tightly coiled/ curled unaltered hair.
* messy or knotted hair.
Freshcut
• New haircut.
Shape up
- straightening of the hair line using T-shaped clippers and a sharp razor blade.
- grew popularity during the 1990s.
- typically for those who have an African hair type.
Curl sponge
- A sponge that has numerous holes in it, that creates a similar look to curls or coiled out hair.
- used by applying a spritz of water on the hair and then rubbing the sponge on the hair in soft circular motions.
360 waves
- typically for African-American men.
- tight waves & ridges.
- pomaded, brushing, & sleeping in du rags.
- for tightly coiled or kinky hair textures.
