What is a political party?

A

A political party is an organization that coordinates candidates to compete in a particular country’s elections. It is common for the members of a party to hold similar ideas about politics, and parties may promote specific ideological or policy goals

What is a Political Action Committee (PAC)?

A

A tax-exempt 527 organization that pools campaign contributions from members and donates those funds to campaigns for or against candidates, ballot initiatives, or legislation.

What is a Super Political Action Committee (Super PAC)?

A

A type of independent political action committee which may raise unlimited sums of money from corporations, unions, and individuals but is not permitted to contribute to or coordinate directly with parties or candidates.

(E.g. Independence USA PAC supports Biden)

What is a Leadership PAC?

A

A leadership PAC is a political committee that is directly or indirectly established, financed, maintained or controlled by a candidate or an individual holding a federal office. They receive money and issue money to other candidates. This increases party advancement.

What is a Dark Money Group?

A

Non-profit corporations formed under Section 501c 4,5, or 6 of the IRS code that are not regulated by the FEC. They do not disclose donors and have unconstrained spending and contributions. They are required by the IRS to limit their political spending to no more than 50% of their total donations.
