dictatorship
the leader has absolute power over the people also reffered to as autocracy and obligarchy
CHARACTERISTICS

~leader has ability to take rights away from citizens

democracy
supreme authority rests in the people
DIRECT CHARATERISTICS
~exist where the will of the people is translated into public policy
INDIRECT
~allows citizens to have the right to vote and elect representatives
unitary
centralized gov. all powers belong to a single agency
- power is concentrated on a single gov
- local govs are controlled by central gov
- local gov can pass minor laws
federal gov
when the powers of gov are divided between federal and local gov
- citizens are before law
- human rights
- majority rules
- states and federal share power
confederate
an alliance of independent states. allows each state to govern alone but come together for common causes
- agrees to put certain limitations on freedom
- states can ignore that law
presidential
republican system of government -head of gov is also head of state -president is independent president is elected by people voting -pres is responsible for leadership - pres is seperate from legislature -Practices seperation of power -pres elects cabinet officers
parliamentary
made up of prime minister and officials cabinet
- prime mister chosen by parliament
- parliament is elected by voters
- parliament elects one member for prime minister
propaganda
spreading of ideas or rumors for a purpose or helping a cause or person TYPES -celeb testimonials -multiple identity -bandwagon -name calling
