Types of Forces Flashcards
A plasma is created when the sun’s charged particles are collected by the solar winds. These charged particles are then taken and captured by the Earth’s magnetic field and drawn towards the poles at a very high speed.
Aurora
Earth’s system of magnetic fields. It takes the shape of incoming space weather from the sun.
Magnetosphere
The interaction between two objects that has the ability to change the motion of one or both objects.
Force
They are interacting objects that are physically touching each other.
Contact Forces
There are six (6) contact forces.
Frictional force, tension force, normal force, air resistance force, applied force, and spring force.
Forces are generated by two surfaces that make contact and slide against each other. These forces are by surface texture and the amount of force.
Friction forces
What force is used to drill a nail into the wall?
Frictional force
A force using a string, rope, cable, or wire to pull object(s) acting from the opposite end.
Tension Force
What force is used as part of a crane?
Tension Force
It is a support force transmitted to an object to help another object to become stable.; opposite of gravity.
Normal Force
What force is used by a lady meditating on a floor mat?
Normal Force
A force is given to an object by a person or another object.
Applied Force
What force is used in kick boxing?
Applied Force
A force is a special type of friction where objects travel through air. This force is often to oppose the object’s motion.
Air resistance
What force is present as the rocket is launched?
Air resistance
A force that allows some materials to return to their original shape after being stretched or compressed.
Spring or Elastic Force
What force is used in a mattress?
Spring or Elastic Force
It is a force that is exerted on an object without physically touching the object(s).
Non-Contact force
What are three (3) non-contact forces?
They are gravitational force, magnetic force, and electrical force.
It is the attractive force between ANY two objects.
Gravity
What determines the strength of the gravity?
Mass and distance
Why is the sun’s gravitational force so enormously strong that it keeps the planets orbiting around the sun, and keeps Earth rotating on its axis?
The sun is the largest mass in the solar system.
The gravitational attraction between the Earth and the moon is the strongest causing the ocean waters on the “near side” of Earth to pull or bulge towards the moon.
High Tide
Where is gravity weaker on Earth?
Closer to the equator and at higher altitudes.
What force is present in waterfalls?
Gravity
