What is the nuclear family?
This is heterosexual married couple, with children. This is seen as the norm and ideal family type by New Right and Functionalists
What is the beanpole family?
A vertically extended family with a lot of generations living under one roof
What factors increases beanpole families in society?
-More women choosing careers over family so have fewer children
-Falling death rates cause people living longer so more generations
What is the symmetrical family?
A family where the roles and responsibilities are shared equally inside and outside the home
What is the lone parent family?
Families that only have one parent that take care of the children
What is the extended family?
A family that consists of several generations living under one roof or nearby
What is a reconstituted family?
A family in which one or both adults were previously married. Possible step parents and siblings.
What is a cereal packet family?
The ideal nuclear family created by advertisers. Comprised of a heterosexual married couple and two children (girl and boy)
