Types of Experiment Flashcards
What is a Laboratory Experiment?
Controlled IV (researcher has created the conditions in the study) in a controlled setting (artificial)
What is a field experiment?
Controlled IV (researcher created conditions) in a natural setting (“real world”)
Not particularly ethical
What is a natural experiment?
Naturally occurring IV (conditions in the study were not created by the researcher - they were natural occurring)
What is meant by high internal validity?
because of the highly controlled nature of the study, we can be confident that the IV is the thing that cause the change in the DV
What is meant by high mundane realism?
the stimulus materials (tasks) given to the participants in the study are realistic and like something they would do in the real world
What is meant by high population validity?
there is a wide range of participants used in the study (different ages/cultures/genders etc)
