What is a Standard Shot?
end of one scene transitions into the start of another
What is a Jump Cut?
jump around a scene to simulate the passing of time
What is a J-Cut?
leading into the next scene with audio (drag the audio clip from the next clip over on top of your current clip)
What is an L-Cut?
leading into the next scene with visuals while audio is still going (conversational scenes)
What is Cutting on Action?
cut when one character turns a certain way
What is Cross-Cutting?
two narratives playing out at the same time to build suspense
What is a Cutaway?
informs the viewer of where you are in the scene
What is a Montage?
jumpcuts over an extended period of time
What is a Matchcut?
matching a character’s actions into the next scene or frame
What is a Fade In/Out?
use for Day-Night switch or when somebody falls asleep
