What are Mainframe Computers?
Mainframe computers:
- a large powerful computer that can do a lot of complicated jobs quickly.
- can be used by a lot of people at the same time.
- used by large organization for complex processing tasks such as statistical anaylsis and bulk data processing
What are microprocessors?
Microprocessors are devices that controls what a computer does, it takes data as input, does something with it and provides output.
Personal computers includes DESKTOP, LAPTOPS, SINGLE-BOARD COMPUTERS what are they?
DESKTOP;
- more space for component than laptops
- Option to upgrade;- making a computer better and able to do more things.
- have peripheral devices connected to it, such as a monitor, printer , mouse and keyboard.
Laptops
LAPTOPS,
- include, keyboard , screen , track pad and a rechargeable battery.

embedded computing:- computing hardware that is fixed into position and carries out a specialist task.
Physical computing:- interactive systems that can sense and respond to the world around them
mobile phones
mobile phones use a SIM card :
- SIM- ( SUBSCRIBER IDENTITY MODULE)
- SIM card is used to identify the subscriber to a mobile phone network.
specialist phones
1) Specialist phones:-
- meets users particular needs with specialist features and functions.
- Meets users accessibility, example:- ‘ talking phone’- is a specialist mobile phone for blind and partially sighted people. every features is spoken a loud.
smartphones
- are small computers with WI-FI ( wireless fidelity) and mobile phone connectivity.
- Include , features such as cameras, touch screen, media players and hand and held game consoles.
- advanced operating system
- Applications can be downloaded
- ability to customise their smartphones with entertainment, educational and business features.

what does each of the following term mean:- - Wi-fi - game console application virtual keyboard
- wireless fidelity - a way of connecting computers or other electronic machines to a network or the internet by using radio signals rather than wires.
- game console:- an electronic device that is used for playing computerized video games on a screen.
- application:- program that allows a user to perform a task.
- virtual keybooard:- a keyboard displaysed on and used via a touch screen.

- bigger than smartphones
- similar features, has virtual keyboard, apps and WI-FI connectivity .
Cameras and camcorders
- use light sensors to capture images formed by light passing through the device’s lens.
- cameras used to capture still images.
- Camcorders used to capture moving images.
how does the quality of the image captured by the camera get affected?
by quality of:-
1) lens; allows light to travel through it without introducing any defects, allows the user to choose how much light can travel through it.
2) A good image processor can compensate for poor lighting conditions.
3) sensor resolution of a camera that captures captures more detail and produce image with a greater number of pixels.
(pixels are small dot that helps to make up an image)
Home entertainment systems:
-television-
television: -
- display still and moving images on a screen
- the quality of an image is set by the numbers of pixels that are used to display it.
- HD TVs ( high Definition) - contain a larger number of pixels means they have a higher resolution
- Ultra High Definition (UHD) 4k or 8k
- Most televsions come with built-in speakers or conncetd to an external sound system to improve their sound quality.
- smart TVs- use apps that can download and stream contant from the internet
STReam ; play a file online while being downloaded
Smart; ability of a device to use data from sensors to perform a programmed action independently . Are also able to connet to the internet.
