types of decompression Flashcards
What is slow decompression?
gradual loss of cabin pressure
How long in slow decompression does it take to equalize?
10secs or more
Causes of slow decompression?
small cracks in window/fuselage, damaged door/window seal, minor fault with pressure system
Signs of slow decompression?
-appearance of oxygen masks
-ears popping
-euphoria
How long in rapid decompression does it take to equalize?
1-10secs
Causes of rapid/explosive decompression?
pressure system fails suddenly, fuselage structure damaged.
Signs of rapid/explosive decompression?
explosive noise, masks drop, pain in ear/sinuses, mist, thin cold air, disturbance of dust, rapid breathing, boiling of liquids, belching, passing wind, bursting of carbonated items. On airbus smell of burning.
How long in explosive decompression does it take to equalize?
less than 1sec
