Types Of Data Flashcards
Quantitative
Numerical and can be measured and quantified. Useful for identifying patterns making predictions and generalising findings
Quantitative - strengths
Easy to analyse and make comparisons
More objective
Quantitative - weaknesses
Likely to only give superficial measures
There’s limited outcome
Lacks detail
Qualitative
Non-numerical and provides in depth descriptive information. Helps us to understand underlying reasons opinions and motivations.
Qualitative - strengths
Likely to provide in depth exploration of a topic
Qualitative - weaknesses
It’s time consuming to gather and analyse
Subjective
More difficult to analyse
Primary
Original and collected first hand by the researcher for a specific research purpose if it’s been collected for the current research it is primary.
