- Developmental Crisis
Maturational/internal:
Erik Erikson proposed that maturational crises are a normal part of growth and development. A successful resolution to a crisis at one stage allows one to move to the next.
- Situational Crisis
A specific event threatens a person’s physical or psychosocial integrity and results in some psychological disequilibrium.
Internal situational crisis
Disease process, etc.
External situational crisis
Moving to another city, being laid off from work, etc. Often unanticipated loss or change experienced in every day, unanticipated, life events (divorce or job change)
- Traumatic Crisis
This crisis starts with unexpected, unusual events that can affect an individual or a multitude of people.
Risk Factors
-Accumulation of unresolved losses
-Current life stressors
-Concurrent mental and physical health issues
-Excessive fatigue or pain
-Age and developmental stage
