Give an example of compliance
Claiming to support a football team you don’t like to be accepted by those who do like it
What is identification?
Public and private acceptance of majority influence in order to gain group acceptance but is temporary and stops when outside the group
What is internalisation?
Public and private acceptance of majority influence through adoption of the majority group’s beliefs (Strongest)
Give an example of identification
Joining the army and adopting the behaviour and beliefs of fellow soldiers, but these are not continued on return to civilian life
Give an example of internalisation
Converting to Buddhism and continuing this lifestyle without the presence or influence of the group
