What is Conformity?
A social influence involving a change in belief or behaviour to fit in with a group.
How does conformity happen?
Pressure from a person or a group of people.
What are the three ways in which a person can conform?
Compliance, Identification and Internalisation.
What is Compliance?
When you just go along with what others are doing. Simply to fit in with a group.
Is compliance temporary or permanent behaviour change?
Temporary.
What is Identification?
When a person conforms because there is something they value about the group.
Is identification a temporary or permanent behaviour change?
Generally only temporary.
What is Internalisation?
When a person genuinely believes and accepts group norm.
Is Internalisation a temporary or permanent behaviour change?
Permanent.
