What is government?
The system by which a state or community is controlled.
What is sovereignty?
Supreme power or authority. Having it enables the ability to rule.
What is Legislative Power?
The power to create laws. Ex: Congress
What is Executive Power?
The power to enforce laws. Ex: President
What is Judicial Power?
The power to interpret laws, to determine their meaning, and to settle disputes that arise within a society. Ex: Supreme Court
What are public policies?
All the things that the government does that affects us, the people.
What is a Unitary System?
A government system where all the sovereignty is held by one central government.
What is a Confederal System?
A government system where most of the authority is being held by the local governments. The central government has limited power.
What is a Federal System?
A government system where power is equally divided between the federal and local governments. The U.S. has this.
What is a monarchy?
The power to rule is passed down through 1 family.
What is an oligarchy?
A type of government where a small group of non-elected officials hold all of the authority.
What is a theocracy?
The religious leaders of the country hold all of the authority
What is a representative democracy?
The people of the country vote on who will hold authority. The U.S. has this.
What is a direct democracy?
The people have the authority to vote on all rules of the country.
What is an anarchy?
There is no government or authority.
