types of altitude Flashcards
absolute altitude
the vertical distance of the aircraft above the terrain. It is expressed as a number of feet AGL (above ground level)
true altitude
the vertical distance of the aircraft above sea level. it is expressed as a number of feet above MSL (mean of sea level)
indicated altitude
the altitude read directly from the altimeter after it is set to the local altimeter setting
pressure altitude
The altitude indicated on the altimeter when the altimeter setting window is adjusted to the ISA sea-level pressure of 29.92 in. of Hg
density altitude
The pressure altitude corrected for non-standard temperature variations
when will density altitude and pressure altitude be the same?
when the temperature is above standard
When will pressure altitude and density altitude the different?
When the temperature is below standard. Density altitude will be lower than pressure altitude
