Absence
3 Hz (rarely up to 6 Hz) generalized spike-wave complexes
Atypical absence
Longer than absence, more gradual behavior arrest and recovery. EEG w/ 1.5 to 2.5 Hz spike-wave complexes.
Special forms of absence
Myoclonic-Rhythmic myoclonus; eyelid myoclonia-aka Jeavons syndrome
VNS
Approved for pts > 12 yo. 50% dec in seizure frequency in 25-45% of patients.
Drugs for focal seizures
CBZ, PHT, phenobarb, primidone, gabapentin, oxcarbazepine, tiagabine, pregabaline, eslicarpazepine, lacosamide, retigabine, vigabatrin, brivaracetam
Broad spectrum AEDs (generalized and focal seizures)
VALPROATE. Lamotrigine, topiramate, Keppra, zonisamide, perampanel, felbamate, rufinamide
AEDs that can worsen mood
Barbiturates, Keppra, Zonegran
